Bhamjees was established in 1957 by Mr. Suleman Bhamjee and his wife, Mrs. Ainsha Bhamjee.
The store was situated on Church Street and Ginman Lane corner in Pietermaritzburg and served the local and surrounding communities with individual customer service for the entire family. It was not long before Bhamjees became a household name for quality friendly service.
Their sons, Shabier & Ismail joined the business while Haneef & Yusuf, pursued studies abroad.
In 1983, the store, already a destination store for quality family footwear, boasted a wide variety of styles and brands, relocated to Hassam Centre. The individual customer service soared and in the late 80’s a nurses department was introduced.
Mr. and Mrs. (Ma) Bhamjee’s legacy of community involvement and upliftment shines through as her children and grand children continue to try and play their part in making a better life for all.
